Gardening in Miniature

I just discovered this wonderful garden artist, Janit Calvo, in my quest to pepper winter with some aspect of the garden.  You can see Janit's story here.

This photo is a birds eye view of some of Janit's miniature garden creations.

I counted two dozen. Yes, these are all living and thriving in Janit's Seattle back yard.  She has made a business of creating gardens in miniature - over 3,000 so far.

This is a perfect photo for showing the scale of the miniature gardens.  The trees are all live specimens.  Janit has developed an incredible knowledge of plant materials - namely slow growing plants that are well-suited to her garden creations.

Here is another of Janit's creations from a birds eye view.  She creates many gardens with water features.  Amazing.  The box to the right is a house boat, you can see the landscape view of it here.
When I was a kid one of my many fascinations-leading-to-projects, was creating a miniature house.  Janit's gardens bring back fond memories and future possibilities.
Are you inspired to create your own?  Janit's book will be a great resource.  She also has an on-line store to help you embellish your new garden with the tiny and meaningful details.
